Fr. J. Payton Wieland
Rector

Father Payton was ordained to the diaconate and to the priesthood in the Diocese of Quincy by Bishop Morales. Active in diocesan leadership, Fr. Payton is Canon for the Diocesan Center and Senior Dean, and has served as Secretary of Synod, President of the Standing Committee, member and secretary of Diocesan Council, Ecclesiastical court, Commission on Ministry, and the Constitution and Canons Committee.

Fr. Payton is a graduate of Trinity School Anglican Seminary. Prior to seminary, he also completed the four-year lay ministry program, Education for Ministry, offered through the University of the South (Sewanee). Fr. Payton holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in civil (structural) engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla, as well as a master’s in engineering management from the same institution. In 2016, he retired after 30 years of service with the Boeing Company, as a Senior Manager and engineering department head. He shares his household with his German Shepherd Jäger, and Homily the cat, who tolerates their existence, barely.

Fr. Toby Karlowicz
Assisting Priest

Fr Toby assists at St Michael’s with teaching and pastoral care. He is an active researcher and writer
on Anglican theology, who has taught as an adjunct seminary professor and has served on various
theological committees of the Anglican Church in North America. Outside of church activities, he
also volunteers with a local Cub Scout pack. His wife Becky works for the OSF Healthcare System in
Peoria and serves on the board of the Anglican Church Camp of the Midwest.

Fr. Ben Sutton

Fr. Ben holds a PhD in History and has been an ordained priest in the Diocese of Quincy since 2020. A software Product Manager, Fr. Ben lives with his wife and children in the Peoria area. He enjoys basketball, powerlifting, bonfires, and is passionate
about pizza.
